A corporate party is like an office meeting on steroids, with fancier snacks and a free bar, where guests swap business cards and awkwardly avoid dancing. It's the only situation where you’ll find a CEO and an intern bonding over mini quiches.
At networking events, a caricature provides a safer opening line than asking what someone does and promptly forgetting the answer. The drawings create little pockets of pleasant conversation around the room without anybody having to actually announce that networking is now taking place.
My caricatures work because they turn the people into the entertainment, making them the 'stars of the show', giving everyone a fun reason to notice one another - a perfect opportunity for your coworkers to reveal the charming characters everyone always suspected they were!
WHAT DID YOU HAVE PLANNED?
A corporate event can be anything, anywhere (and indeed, after so many bookings in the City of London, I've developed an irrational fear of large intricate corporate buildings - you could say I have a complex complex complex), where all shapes & sizes of corporate entertainers operate, from stilt-walkers to limbo dancers...although of course limbo dancers are thin on the ground.
I'm not fussy - whether it’s a company summer party, client lunch, product launch, networking tipple, office party fiesta, awards extravaganza, junket jaunt, trade show a-gogo…or even something more niche (chimpanzee gala?...secret society?) - I'm game.
TOP TIPS
With nothing to set up and no big stop-everything performance, I'm about as low-maintenance as corporate party entertainment can get. I simply adapt to the venue and the guests.
Choose between walkabout, seated, or a mixture of the two - whichever best suits you, the venue and the flow of your event.
I'm just as happy drawing couples or even small groups as I am sketching individuals.
I like to keep the pen moving. I'm as fast as anyone and don't dawdle - I settle into a steady rhythm and crack on.
Company logos and personalised messages can be preprinted on the card, giving guests a keepsake that's unique to your event.
The sketches are drawn on sturdy 400gsm A5 card (15 x 21cm) and tucked into clear splash-proof folders. Even caricatures appreciate first-class travel.
